THE FILM
SYNOPSIS
Operation Halyard is one of the greatest rescue missions in American history. 512 Allied airmen, primarily B-17 and B-24 crew shot down during the 1944 bombing raids over Nazi-occupied Serbia-were rescued by a CLASSIFIED alliance between the OSS, the U.S. 15th Air Force, Serbian underground leader General Draza Mihailovic, Chetnik forces and Serbian villagers who risked their lives to hide the Americans from Nazi Death Squads.
Together, the Americans and Serbians built a hidden, torchlit dirt airstrip on a mountain so C-47's could extract the airmen, over six harrowing months. Mihailovic refused to leave on the last flight and was later captured, tried and executed by Tito forces, forever wrongly branded as a traitor.
